    Managing Partner

    As the firm’s Managing Partner, Joe is responsible for all major public projects that BTY Group undertakes.

    Joe’s primary area of expertise is Project Management for complex Public-Private Partnership (P3) social and transportation infrastructure projects.

    He draws on more than 30 years of wide-ranging industry experience in providing overall strategic direction for BTY Group’s offices nationwide. With the firm since 1984, he has been instrumental in developing business processes to advance our capabilities and service delivery.

    Born in Sierra Leone, educated in Ireland, and at home just about anywhere, Joe has graduated from the rough and tumble of provincial level rugby to the subtler victories (and defeats) of golf.

  • Toby Mallinder

    Toby Mallinder MRICS, PQS


    Toby heads our Cost Management Group for all project delivery models and takes the lead in national Public-Private Partnership (P3) and social infrastructure projects.

    He brings BTY Group clients more than two decades of Cost and Project Management experience gleaned from a wide range of international ventures, including large-scale health care, advanced education, and transportation projects. In addition to special expertise in Independent Certification and Project Monitoring services for P3 projects, Toby has extensive experience in the economics of sustainable design and construction.

    In his spare time, Toby uses his years of experience on the rugby pitch to serve as a coach for the next generation of aspiring rugby superstars

  • Gord Smith

    Gord Smith PQS(F), A.Sc.T., LEED AP, MRICS


    With more than 25 years of experience working in a monitoring capacity on development financing, Gord leads our Technical Advisory team for Public-Private Partnerships (P3s).

    His areas of expertise are Post-Financial Close Independent Certification and Lenders’ Technical Advisor services on P3s, Green Building Design, and Value Analysis. Gord has worked on more than 1,000 projects of nearly every type and with nearly every major lender.

    He is confident that he’ll have permission to build his own workshop after he completes the next home renovation, as long it doesn’t interfere with his girls’ soccer coaching duties.

    Neill leads our Special Services Group that integrates research, analytic and information management to support BTY Group’s service innovation.

    With BTY Group since 1992, he also oversees life-cycle cost and cost benefit analysis studies and directs Cost Planning, Schedule Management, and Cost Consulting services.

    Although it has been several years since Neill’s latest unintended dismount from one of the horses in the family stable, he has yet to be thrown by the family donkey.

  • Mark Ravelle

    Mark Ravelle PQS, MRICS, CET


    Mark brings more than three decades of construction industry experience to directing Cost Planning and Cost Control services on large-scale projects in Central Canada.

    Mark is particularly skilled at coordinating all specialist disciplines, including architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical works. With BTY Group since 1982, he developed the proprietary software applications that drive the speed and accuracy of BTY Group’s services, and also provides much of the firm’s expert witness testimony and forensic cost reviews.

    A former ranked squash player, Mark now competes with his sons on mountain bikes and tours Niagara wine country, systematically visiting all its wineries.

    Eldon brings more than 20 years of experience in Cost Consulting and Construction Management to his role as leader of our Cost Management Group.

    He has developed special expertise in estimating architectural, structural, and civil work for complex facilities in the health care, leisure, and education sectors.

    Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, Eldon started his career in Hong Kong with one of Asia’s leading development firms and worked extensively in China and Australia before joining BTY Group in 1997.

    A recreational badminton player and avid snorkeler, Eldon loves traveling when he’s not working or driving his kids between skating and skiing.

  • Antonio Niro

    Antonio Niro B.ARCH, B.SC. (ARCH)


    Tony has 35 years of construction industry experience across North America. His focus areas are Cost and Program Management and Technical Advisory services for Public Authorities and Owners, Private Real Estate Developers, P3 Developers, Architects and Designers, Financial Institutions, and Specialist Consultants.

    As leader of the Quebec office, he will work out of BTY’s Montreal office. Tony brings clients a wide variety of expertise in design and construction. In addition to working as an architect and a project manager, Tony has served as an owner’s representative, and as a director of construction for high-profile projects for one of Canada’s largest developers. His portfolio includes both traditional design-bid-build and construction management projects in health care, transportation, education, public services, energy and infrastructure, residential, industrial and commercial sectors. Prior to joining BTY in early 2015, he was President & Executive Program Manager of Antonio Niro Consultants Inc.

    Tony says he has too many interests (skiing, biking, sport fishing, hiking, the arts, theatre, fine dining and historical architecture), but it actually comes down to too little time to pursue them all.

  • Ryan Brady

    Ryan Brady MBA


    In his 16 years in the construction industry, Ryan has acquired wide-ranging expertise in project and construction management as well as cost and risk management. Specializing in providing technical advisory services for large P3 infrastructure projects, he has worked in a broad array of sectors across North America and in UK. They have included transportation, water and wastewater, education, public safety, healthcare, hotels and commercial and mixed-use projects. In addition to leading BTY’s project teams in the U.S., Ryan also heads the firm’s practice in Phoenix, AZ.

    His management skills have also proven invaluable away from work. Ryan juggles coaching his three boys in football and baseball, plays centerfield and second base himself, and skis in his “spare” spare time. Most importantly, he remembers to acknowledge his wife’s equally critical contribution to the Brady team effort.

    Associate Director

    Mike Gabert leads our Saskatoon office. A native of North Battleford, SK, Mike has nearly a decade of experience in estimating and quantity surveying and construction contracting in the Prairies.

    He has worked extensively in the oilfield supply and services sector in Alberta and more recently in residential, commercial and industrial projects in Saskatchewan.

    An avid downhill skier (not in Saskatchewan), hunter of deer and moose, and fisher of northern pike and walleye, Mike refuses to divulge the size of this largest catch for fear of embarrassment. He expects to be let outdoors again when his toddler son is old enough to take hunting.

    As part of our Toronto office’s Cost Management, Project Monitoring and Technical Advisory teams, Darren brings clients senior-level expertise in both pre- and post-contract construction services, from initial feasibility studies for clients to final account negotiation and agreements with contractors.

    As well as being an avid golfer, Darren is a complete sports fan. He now spends most Saturday mornings watching English Premier League matches and trying to understand the finer point of North American sports.

    Leslie is a team leader in our Project Monitoring and Cost Planning groups in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

    In addition to providing expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM), she also helps coordinate BTY Group’s involvement in Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects in Alberta. Leslie has worked on diverse projects, including hospitals and commercial centres as well as residential and recreational developments.

    While working in BC’s Okanagan region, she discovered that alternating rounds of golf with wine tasting tours can improve one’s palate, but not the scorecard.

    Business Development Manager

    Janine leads business development for BTY Group’s Project Monitoring and Lender Services practices for the firm’s Los Angeles office.

    She has extensive experience as a Project Director, having overseen project construction, marketing and operations. She has also been involved in the development of a range of commercial, residential and resort properties.

    Janine is very careful in combining her three passions, travel, hiking and wine tasting. It helps keep her from losing her way when far a field in a foreign country after sampling the fruits of its vines.

    Senior Consultant

    A Senior Consultant of BTY Group, John oversees the firm’s Project Monitoring Group in providing Cost Control services for the financial sector on projects in Southern Alberta.

    He has more than 25 years of experience in construction Cost Control, a subject on which he lectures at the University of Calgary and at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. This expertise has been particularly valuable in large, complex infrastructure projects, such as mining facilities, municipal wastewater treatment plants and major health care centres.
