BTY began in 1979 with offices in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, the respective homes of the three founding principals: Barnett, Treharne and Yates.

The geographic spread was an early indication of the firm’s ability to collaborate over great distances to serve clients in multiple markets and sectors. Today BTY has twenty offices, and more than a hundred strong team of experts and a network of partners in key regional markets across the globe.

Over the past three plus decades, our professionals have advised project delivery, construction costs and risks on every building and infrastructure project type in locations from the Arctic to the Tropics, and from venues for high-profile events such as the Olympics to major security, energy, and social and transportation projects. A strong culture of innovation and a willingness to go the extra mile in adapting to meet our clients’ needs have driven continuous expansion into developing new services for new markets.

In the 1990s, we were among the first to establish a comprehensive region and sector specific construction cost database. In the 2000s, we pioneered the development of services and roles for the Public-Private Partnership (P3) procurement model in North America. And we have maintained our commitment to constant innovation, most recently with the cost and risk management methods for Tall Wood buildings in North America.

There have been two constants in our growth: the quality of the technical due diligence behind our services, and the unstinting commitment our people bring to delivering services in ways that add value for our clients.
