In the spirit of celebrating Earth Day this year, we’re proud to announce that Moses Structural Engineers and BTY are joining forces to offer integrated expertise in wood construction design, engineering and cost management.
The partnership’s aim is to provide authorities, owners and developers comprehensive yet practical construction solutions that have been developed and vetted by industry leaders in each firm, starting with a joint feasibility study on using wood for multi-storey buildings incorporating various density and demographic scenarios in Ontario.
Both companies share a history of playing pioneering roles in expanding the use of wood in construction across Canadian markets.
BTY provided the cost expertise in some of the first groundbreaking studies to evaluate the feasibility of wood buildings in British Columbia, including The Wood Framed Construction Cost Study in collaboration with the Urban Development Institute and, The Case for Tall Wood Buildings, which was commissioned by the Canadian Wood Council. The firm is already providing Cost Management and Lender Services for the growing list of multi-storey wood buildings in BC.
Darren Cash, BTY’s Regional Director for Ontario and Eastern Canada, believes the local industry is poised to net great benefits from adopting wood construction.
“With the code changes in Ontario now allowing mid-rise wood buildings to go up from 4 to 6 storeys, we’re ready to use lessons we have been learning about wood construction in Western Canada for the benefit of our clients in Ontario and Eastern Canadian markets. Teaming with Moses Structural Engineers will give our clients unprecedented access to proven wood construction applications that improve their bottom line and help them reap the full benefits of this renewable material.”
Moses Structural Engineers has more than 20 years of experience providing unique engineering design solutions. The firm’s principal, David Moses, is a renowned expert and an authority on timber engineering. The firm has earned numerous awards and much recognition for developing wood construction solutions that have set the standard for the field.
“We established 6Wood forecasting where our client’s needs were headed. Integrating BTY’s expertise in construction costs allows our firm to provide clients the best coverage for building successful projects by combining tailored engineering solutions with the confidence of accurate cost estimating and cost control.”
