Ian McDonald joined BTY in 2025 as the firm’s Director of Renewable Energy Services, bringing over 15 years of experience in the sector.
Ian possesses a diverse skill set spanning the entire renewables lifecycle, including project development, contracting, construction, project finance, due diligence, asset optimization, product development, data analytics, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management.
He has led over 100 wind and solar equity and debt due diligence assessments for global lenders and asset owners. He brings a proven track record advising on the technical, contractual, and financial aspects of approximately 50 GW of wind and solar assets across the Americas and internationally.
Beyond due diligence, Ian also brings unique experience working for major infrastructure funds and IPPs to optimize the financial performance of their assets using operational data – which encompassed wind turbine control enhancements for higher yields, risk management improvements for better insurance rates, lifetime assessments for greater longevity and lower uncertainties for better debt terms.
Prior to joining BTY, Ian held a senior leadership role in a renewables software technology company where he was responsible for product innovation, corporate development and new business line incubation.
