Are you an exceptional leader?

At BTY, we’re always on the look-out for top candidates to join our team.

Let's Talk

Enwave’s Pearl Street Energy Centre (PSEC) Low-Carbon Heating Facility celebrated its groundbreaking of a new Heat Pump Plant Project.

The facility is one of two major steam plants that contribute to downtown Toronto’s district heating network.

BTY is providing a full scope of Project Management services on the PSEC Heat Pump Plant Project Initially engaged to provide advisory services to assist Enwave in selecting an appropriate delivery model, BTY is now leading delivery of the project through each phase including design, procurement, and construction.

This is a precedent-setting project for the kind of innovation Toronto needs to bring online rapidly at scale. We are excited to support Enwave in leading this push to reduce carbon emissions and utilize cleaner energy sources for built assets. Cities across Canada would benefit from understanding how this technology can help them make meaningful progress on meeting net zero targets effectively for existing build stock and new construction.”

— Tom Coyle, Director

The upgrade will include two new heat pumps, retrofit extensions, and façade improvements which will result in an estimated reduction of 11,600 tonnes of carbon emissions, the equivalent of converting over 10 million ft² of office space to net zero.

What Enwave describes as ‘Green Heat’, will recycle district waste heat to produce hot water using the new heat pumps, electric feeds, and generators, effectively providing low-carbon heating for Downtown Toronto.

This will help city buildings achieve the highest level of Toronto Green Standards as well as Zero Carbon Building certifications from the Canadian Green Building Council.

The project planning required the use of 3D software to ensure all new equipment and upgrades could be implemented and coordinated around Enwave’s ongoing operations of their existing 24-hour facility.

Congratulations to Enwave Energy Corporation on achieving this significant milestone!

BTY would also like to acknowledge the many contributions of the wider project team we are supporting, including HH Angus, Stantec, H+J Architects, Clark Construction Management, Sprint Mechanical and TriVolt Electric.
